Sometimes Going Down With The Ship Doesn’t Make Sense
Coming to you from beautiful downtown Tampa, and dang is it hot! And the weather is pretty steamy too!
I came here because as an entrepreneur, business owner and marketer, I felt like I owed it to myself to be surrounded with the new leaders that are finding HUGE success in the network marketing industry. Building a business of any kind is always a difficult undertaking. Dependant upon what type of business you are starting will be able to give you a vision on how great the potential can be.
One of our fellow Dream Teamers, John Adams (johnadamsglobal.com) wrote a great blog on which business is right for you. If you have come to this blog, I can only imagine that you have been in the same state of affairs at one time.
Me, I came into this industry as green as anyone. I had the same friends tell me no, and make fun of me. I sacrificed time and money for the hotel meetings, endless tools, and training weekends. We all have to invest in the ride we take in our industry, but how do you know if the ride is over?
I remember a phrase that I heard spoken a lot when I was growing up. “The early bird gets the worm!”
I’m not sure exactly how that phrase became so popular. I imagine it had to be sometime around the great depression. I know when I have been between jobs that rising early was something that happened because I knew if I didn’t, I would find myself still in my pajamas at 4 in the afternoon discussing who the guest on Oprah would be.
I think we are in the midst of the same state of fear within our current economy. Now, I can’t site stats or percentages of the population that are experiencing this, nor am I going to get into some geo political tirade about who’s in office and whether they or constituents have the country’s best interest at heart. I’m not that guy. If I wanted to be a financial analyst, I would have studied in school. What I can tell you is that each person I meet shares the same common lament. “I can’t wait for the economy to turn around,” or better yet, “when is the economy going to turn around?” We are all WAITING for something to happen.

It’s sad to think that we have adopted a victim mentality in this country. However, we can’t look upon the people who foster this mentality as quote, lazy. They are just following what the philosophy that has we as a society have been fed.
What makes any of us think that we are “owed”
A story I heard recently describes this point.
A young Indian boy comes to his father and says, “Father, I have two wolves at war in my heart. One is anger and greed, and the other is prosperity and optimism. Which one will win?”
The Chief looks at him and says, “Whichever one you feed,”
I’ll let you marinate on that one for a minute.
I come from a classic working class family. Immigrant Mother.
Tough, working class Father. Both of them with a sense for survival. I watched my parents over the years speak of their hopes and dreams while they worked for others. My Father always had a keen sense for opportunity, but second-guessed himself when it came to taking advantage of his instinctive inspiration. He was a dreamer that couldn’t live with what he felt were injustices in this world. How many of you have felt that way? I believe it is what fed his alcoholism and his inevitable death at an early age of 58. I will tell you that my Father was one of my greatest inspirations in my life. Whenever I see myself give way to my demons of doubt, I try to think of who I am keeping myself from becoming. He was a man who wished for greatness, but fed his dispair.
Having someone dictate your worth every day will do that to you. Dreamers are never satisfied with where they are. They are always looking to what might be.

My Mom took a different path. She could see the opportunity in any situation. Back in the mid 1970’s (I can’t believe I can even recall a date with a 19 in it),we moved from New York to Texas because my Stepfather had a job opportunity offered to him there. Unfortunately, within a few short months, the company that he was employed by went belly up and we were faced with not being able to pay the bills. My Mom rose to the occasion and took a job in retail sales. Through the years, she kept her ears and eyes open. Whenever an opportunity arose she took it. Each time there was RISK involved. She started off as a salaried employee and went to a commissioned employee because she felt that the harder she worked, only benefitted her employer. And she was right! I remember my Stepdad freaking out at the idea that she was willing to let go of the guaranteed pay for the “hope” of a potentially more lucrative position.
My point is fear is a strong emotion. It can keep us all from looking at a situation from an informed perspective.
So, when dealing with a BUSINESS decision, which direction are you following? Are you keeping your eyes and ears open to possibility, or are you adopting the same employee mentality that made you look at becoming an INDEPENDENT business owner in the first place.
We connect with amazing people in this industry. We form strong community ties. We dig deep inside and attack personal development. But, if we don’t incorporate that into our business education, we can compound our FEAR to cloud our vision or reason we researched which company to become involved with in the first place.
Options are available to us every day. Choice is making the decisive action to effect movement. If you’re not moving, then you’re stagnating. Make sure you don’t adopt fear into your quest for the freedom you desire. Be wise, not emotional.
Don’t just be on the ride. Be sure to look at the scenery, and realize that journey’s are made to give us different paths of CHOICE.
We have found a logical, exciting, tangible choice in the sea of MLM’s. Each member of the Dream Team looked closely at this opportunity and have partnered with the leaders in the internet marketing, affiliate, and network marketing world.
It’s shiny. It’s unique. You don’t have to check with your doctor. It can’t upset you stomach. It never goes bad. And mostly?
YOU DON’T MIND HAVING A GARAGE FULL OF IT!
Until next time!

Hey Rick ~ great title and very thought provoking follow up with your post!
When I read posts like this I start wondering what stories our kids are going to be telling about us come their time to shine as entrepreneurs. It is definitely far more easier to be an entrepreneur now than what it was 30 years ago, so I can’t even imagine the opportunities that are going to be upon us in 20 years time. Are we the generation inbetween, the generation that is going to be seen as the ones that “started it all”?? My kids haven’t even finished school yet, and they already have an online business each… so many opportunities!
What an inspirational Blog Post Rick and I am Moved by your Writing Ability. You definitely have a knack for telling stories. I’m so happy to see you guys found your spot and there is no question you guys will be doing incredible things in the industry. Honored to know you

Wow!! Rick, GREAT post!!!
Your dad is always with you! And you are still learning from all the experiences that you all have had over your lifetime……. Success comes to those who learn, who try, and those who chase their dreams!! I believe all dreams are attainable. Not letting the FEAR control you – - so very true in all parts of life!!!
Great statement, my friend: “Be wise, not emotional!” I’m going to borrow that one!!!
